TRISH MCEVOY

Applelec Projects worked closely with design studio Alter/d to revamp the Trish McEvoy concession stand within the luxury department store Selfridges, London.

Elevating the presence of the high-end beauty and skincare brand, the retail design focused on forms and materials to convey themes of elegance and create tactile qualities. Injecting warmth, style and personality into the space, the concept took influence from art-deco glamour with geometric features and gilded accents.

Delivering this, Applelec’s solutions were interspersed throughout the retail design to create eye-catching branding and sophisticated, illuminated product displays, which includes the golden, stencil cut, decorative sign tray that pays homage to the brand’s origin with its depiction of the iconic New York skyline.

Requiring several complex designs, Applelec Projects worked closely with Alter/d, producing CAD drawings and artworks for visual aids detailing how Applelec’s bespoke display, signage and architectural lighting solutions would deliver the required elements.

One such complex and challenging design was the See you in the mirror Xox Trish display area. To deliver the desired neon effect for the caption and maintain its delicate, flowing style, the lettering required an exceptionally narrow serif not possible through traditional letter manufacturing methods. Overcoming the complexities, Applelec Projects devised alternative techniques through their design development stage to achieve the intricate stroke width and deliver the bespoke, neon-style lettering.

Further heightening the brand’s presence is the billboard style lightbox complete with, wet sprayed, jet black matte acrylic lettering. At 2448mm x 877mm, the lightbox creates a commanding and memorable centre piece, which design is repeated throughout the retail fit- out at various sizes to deliver modern and clear wayfinding.

Prevalent within the retail design, Applelec LED Light Sheet in warm 3000K LED was selected to complement the gold features of the brand’s colour scheme and further create a sense of opulence. Providing illuminated focus points, Applelec fabricated 5mm, opal 050 acrylic boxes, backlit with Applelec LED Light Sheet in various shapes and sizes for header panels, display shelving and pods to showcase the brand’s hero products.

Will Lucking director at Alter/d said: ‘As the retail design required a wide range of varying products, working with Applelec Projects meant they were able to deliver innovative solutions to every design element with their flexible approach and bespoke product offering. Working with one point of contact throughout simplified the process, from solution prototyping and design development support through to manufacturing, helping to tie the whole project together and creating a smoother experience.’
