Sole Club
Designer: StudioTwo
Applelec was delighted to partner with interior design studio Studio Two on the award-winning Sole Club, a standout hospitality project in the heart of Glasgow. The brief was to reimagine the classic chippie with a twist, delivering a creative, intimate speakeasy-style restaurant that fuses tradition with a sense of hidden excitement.
Studio Two’s concept, described as a ‘tale of two’, marries the rugged character of working dockyards with high-end detailing and moments of surprise. The result is a space that balances raw textures and industrial charm with a refined, exclusive atmosphere. This fusion provided the perfect canvas for Applelec to deliver bespoke lighting elements that helped bring the layered storytelling to life.

A key feature of the project is a large L-shaped lightbox, fabricated to millimetre precision to fit seamlessly behind a wall of glass blocks. This striking installation creates the illusion of fish frozen in ice, a direct nod to the venue’s seafood offering. We worked closely with Studio Two on the fish artwork to ensure the visuals aligned with the design intent, while meticulously calculating the LED count to achieve even, ambient lighting across the entire panel. The warm 2700K illumination, powered by SloanLED Prism modules, enhances the texture and depth of the installation, making it a true focal point of the interior. The final piece was installed by the Applelec team, ensuring a seamless finish in line with the overall concept.
Beyond this showpiece, the Applelec Projects team also supplied and installed a series of non-illuminated lightboxes, positioned throughout the restaurant. These were used like framed artworks, contributing to the layered visual language of the space. Designed with a silicone edge push-fit system, the panels allow for easy updates to the graphics, ideal for keeping the interior fresh and evolving. All graphics were produced using our eco-conscious material made from recycled yarn and plastic bottles, helping to divert plastic waste from the ocean. This subtle sustainability detail ties in beautifully with the restaurant’s seafood focus, creating a meaningful link between the materials used and the story being told in the space. The substrate offers excellent print quality and can be fully recycled through the Applelec Recycling Scheme.

Throughout the project, Applelec worked in close collaboration with Studio Two to ensure every detail, from fit and finish to lighting performance, supported the immersive experience. The result is a richly textured environment that tells a story through light, form and material, reflecting both the heritage of a traditional fish shop and the intrigue of a hidden gem.
