A Lightbox with Purpose: Supporting Standing Tall’s Inaugural Summit

When Standing Tall approached us about creating a lightbox for their inaugural Summit in Birmingham, we immediately knew it was a project we wanted to support. Their work, helping talented people experiencing homelessness move into stable jobs and safe homes, is powerful, practical, and genuinely life-changing. So being asked to help in a small way at their first major event, held on 16th October 2025 at the Library of Birmingham, felt like a worthwhile opportunity to contribute.

The Summit brought together around seventy people, all connected by a shared purpose: finding better, more collaborative ways to end homelessness across eight UK cities.
With such an important message shaping the day, Standing Tall wanted a simple, professional display that would work well on stage and on camera, while reflecting their values. We were pleased to manufacture the lightbox at cost, helping them achieve a high-quality, reusable solution while keeping the focus firmly on the event itself.
The result was a 600mm × 600mm × 70mm freestanding fabric lightbox, built with a powder-coated aluminium frame and two footplates for stability. Our ECO printed fabric skin was selected, which is manufactured from recycled yarn and plastic bottles, a small but considered choice that aligned with both Standing Tall’s ethos and our own approach to more responsible manufacturing.
To ensure the display performed reliably throughout the day, the team fitted it with a high-quality LED system, selected for clarity and consistency rather than spectacle. The cool-white illumination helped keep the branding sharp, with even light distribution across the face, high efficacy for energy efficiency, and stable performance over time, supported by a five-year warranty. The aim was simply to create something dependable that Standing Tall could reuse again and again.
“It's been great working with the team at Applelec. We're so pleased with the lightbox and we'll be making good use of it for the foreseeable future.” Christy Acton BEM, Founder and CEO Standing Tall
During the Summit, the lightbox sat behind speakers during panel discussions, providing a clear visual reference point without drawing attention away from the conversations themselves. It did what it needed to do, supporting the event quietly and practically, while the focus remained firmly on the people, partnerships, and ideas driving real change.
Standing Tall works across eight UK cities and expects to support around one hundred people this year alone, helping individuals move away from homelessness through secure employment and stable housing. Their impact is created through the dedication of their team, partners, and supporters and we’re glad to have been able to assist in a small, practical way.
